Min. antal deltagere:
Forventet antal deltagere:12
Maks. antal deltagere:12
Formelle forudsætninger:This project is ideally suited to those doing work on computer games, technology and gender, or design.
Læringsmål:Upon successful completion students will be able to:

1) Demonstrate an understanding of major theoretical issues surrounding gender, technology, and games.

2) Apply a variety of methodological approaches to analyzing the subject matter.

3) Depending on whether the final project is research or construction focused:

identify a question/problem in the analysis of gender and computer games, select an appropriate method for examination, and carry out an original research project

or

create a design document or undertake a construction project informed by scholarly research in the field.

In addition, the project could serve as excellent preparatory work for the thesis.
Fagligt indhold:This project will center around the critical examination of the issue of gender and computer games. The group will be organized around some initial common readings, with smaller subgroups then working together on various subtopics. The project period will be broken down into several segments:

Phase 1 will consist of an initial literature review (see below). During this period (roughly five weeks) the entire project group will meet together, seminar-style, on Mondays from 15:00-17:00. In addition to some basic methodological issues, participants will explore existing research to address questions like:

-Do men & women think about and use technology differently?
-Do men & women have unique play styles?
-Do men & women want different things from games?
-How do social & structural factors influence who plays and how they play?
-How has the games industry dealt with the issue of gender?
-Should design focus on "pink games" as a way of enfranchising girls and women into not only gaming, but technology?
-How are perceived gender differences often incorporated into design?

Phase 2 will focus on smaller groupwork where participants explore a range of games with a critical eye toward the issues framed via the readings.

Phase 3 will involve a specific construction or research project. This is currently fairly openly defined and could range from producing a small game, a design document, a research project, or even game character models
Læringsaktiviteter:

OBS!

Se tilmeldingsfrister her http://www1.itu.dk/sw707.asp
Første mødedag er August 29.

For nærmere indhold af mødedage, se fagligt indhold.
