Kursusnavn (dansk):Projektklynge: Ubiquitous Computing
Kursusnavn (engelsk):Project Cluster: Ubiquitous Computing
Semester:Forår 2008
Udbydes under:cand.it., softwareudvikling og -teknologi (sdt)
Omfang i ECTS:15,00
Kursussprog:Engelsk
Kursushjemmeside:https://learnit.itu.dk
Min. antal deltagere:
Forventet antal deltagere:12
Maks. antal deltagere:15
Formelle forudsætninger:The project cluster is designed for DDK and SDT students on their 3rd semester but other students with similar skills are wellcome to participate as well.
Læringsmål:To gain insight in contemporary research within pervasive computing as well as getting hands-on experience on developing small pervasive computing systems.
Fagligt indhold:This project cluster deals with state-of-the-art research within ubiquitous and pervasive computing. Topics include

- historical background
- physical and virtual integration
- new interaction models and user interfaces
- software architectures for pervasive computing
- embedded programming
- hardware for UbiComp
- pervasive healthcare

The project-cluster will have both interaction design and technical aspects.

Læringsaktiviteter:

The cluster will consist of a series of lectures based on research literature. Each participant will be asked to make a presentation of one topic based on a set of research papers.

During the course you will work in groups of 3-4 persons on a specific design project of a small ubiquitous computing application. This will take place in our new Pervasive Interaction Technology (PIT) laboratory. You will work with technologies like active and passive RFID, in-door location tracking, mobile phone programming and UI design, etc.

------------------------------------------------------------

How to sign up for the project cluster:
You sign up for this project cluster as if for a normal course.
Please note that enrolment in a project cluster is not considered a binding course registration (only relevant to M.Sc. students).

The project cluster will not appear on your diploma but the project that you register in the projectbase will of course appear once you have passed the exam.

Single-subject students at Open University and guest students from other universities interested in participating in the project cluster, please contact the Student Administration Office (+45 72 18 52 05).

Based on your project and the relevant literature, your will write up a project report, which formally will be a 15 ETCS project. This project may then form the basis for your master's thesis afterwards.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern censur

Litteratur udover forskningsartikler:The following two books are relevant background readings. They are, however, rather expensive so try to borrow them from the library and copy relevant stuff.

* Pervasive Computing Handbook by Uwe Hansmann (Editor), Lothar Merk, Martin S. Nicklous, Thomas Stober. Springer Verlag.
* Pervasive Computing in Healthcare. Edited by Jakob E. Bardram, Alex Mihailidis, Dadong Wan. CRC Press
