Information about study structure
This course is third part of all specializations on the Master of Science in IT, study programme Games. 
Læringsmål:After the course, the student should be able to:

- Propose and evaluate a research question.
- Formulate a research problem statement.
- Independently research for literature and other research resources.
- Formulate a research plan.
- Reflect on the academic process of independent research.
- Reflect on the the scope and ambition of a master thesis and its relation with the academic research traditions it relates to
- Evaluate the scope, depth and research importance of a Master Thesis.
- Evaluate research questions and problem statements.
- Structure the research process for a master thesis
- Perform the basics of independent research, from literature search and annotation to method description. 
Fagligt indhold:This course is intended to help students do the preparatory work for their Master Thesis. As such, it is not a course structured around conventional lectures, but around supervision and independent work.
The purpose of the course is to help students formulate a topic for their master thesis, complete with an initial literature list. Students will be mostly working on their own, alone or in groups, with faculty assigned to supervise their projects and guide their research process focusing on their interests and capabilities.

The course will give the students:
- An understanding of academic independent research.
- A familiarity with a number of academic methods and traditions that are relevant to their research project, through independent work and supervision. 
Læringsaktiviteter:

The course is centered around individual work. Students will have to contact one of the course managers and propose a research topic. Once the topic is roughly formulated, the course manager will schedule regular supervision meetings to help the students with the process of independent academic research, with the focus of letting them prepare for a successful Master Thesis.
Supervision contents and schedule depend on each course manager and project. Students should expect to be able to meet their supervisors 5 times throughout the semester.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern censur

Students have to hand in 3 documents:
- A research question, detailing the research they want to conduct in their Master Thesis, and how it relates to a research tradition or traditions. The size will be of 1000 words + 500 words extra per student in the team.
- A method description, focusing on the arguments for approaching the problem with that particular method, and what potential pitfalls there might be. The size will be of 500 words + 250 words extra per student in the team.
- An annotated bibliography, with at least 20 commented entries.
