| Læringsmål: | To give the student an overview over the function of modern digital computers and data networks. |
| Fagligt indhold: | The functionality of modern computing platforms and envirinments can be described as the result of communication between different components, processes, objects or systems (either directly or via a network). The course focuses on comminication as a general description of the functionality of digital computers and data networks. Digital computers and data networks can both be viewed as consisting of a number of layers, where communication is performed on each layer - both (horizontally) between components on the same layer and (vertically) between components on neighbouring layers. The course will describe machine and network architecture focusing on the subjects that are currently commonly used. The essential subjects of the course are: * Digital Gates & Circuits * Microarchitecture * Machine Language * Operating System Core * Interfaces * Data Communication * Ethernet * Internet * Network Protocols The following subjects will also be touched: * Parallel and multiprocessor architectures. * Command line OS interface. * Virtual machines: compilers, interpreters, assemblers. * Client-server and peer-to-peer network applications. |
