Formelle forudsætninger: | As a prequisite to the course, students should have a basic grasp of computer programming and the essential internet protocols (tcp/ip etc.), for instance by having taken the following courses at ITU: Introductory Programming (Grundlæggende Programmering) Networks and Protocols (Netværk og protokoller) |
Læringsmål: | The course is about IT for mobile workers. It aims at giving students a thorough insight into the prospects and issues of applying the emerging wireless technologies of communication and positioning for supporting mobile action and interaction in modern work settings. |
Fagligt indhold: | The course covers the following topics: Mobile communication technologies (GSM, UMTS, IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth etc.) Positioning technologies (GPS, Network-based positioning). Distributed systems (e.g., strategies of achieving synchronization and consistence over distributed transactions). Characteristics of mobile working. Case studies of mobile working (e.g., process control; maritime navigation; hospital work; emergency management). Designing IT applications for mobile workers.
Students will be engaged in project work, developing a conceptual design of an application for selected use scenarios. |
Læringsaktiviteter: | In the first half of the course, course work will be primarily based upon lectures and exercises; in the second half, primarily project work. |
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse: | X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 13-skala, Ekstern censur Individual oral exam without preparation. Duration: 30 min including evaluation and feedback. Evaluated on the basis of the Danish 13-scale, external censor.
During the course students (working in groups) prepare a written report that is the point of departure of the oral exam. The report is to be handed in no later than 2 March 2003 12:00
The student opens by giving a short presentation on a topic in the report of his or her own chosing and can use overheads as well as notes.
