Fagligt indhold:The course equips the students with techniques and tools for understanding the fundamental concepts of open innovation. The course explores how organisations purposively use “inflows and outflows of knowledge” to progress and promote innovation. How do they incorporate ideas from outside the company with the use of technology acquisitions, alliances, client-supplier relationships, crowd-sourcing, open source and other practices and how and when do they let ideas flow out of the organizational boundaries? Organizational Theory has evolved from Organization 1.0 and the Great Man Theory to classic theories of management and leadership up to the Organization 3.0, whereby organizations have become flatter and top-down hierarchical systems are increasingly replaced by Open Ecosystems. In this emerging era of organizational development innovation in products, processes, and business models is undoubtedly important for all types of organizations (private, public, NGOs and social enterprises). The course focuses on the nuances of the OI paradigm and how it contributes towards advancing ideas, agendas and businesses both in theory and in practice.
Læringsaktiviteter:

Please note that the first lecture will be held on the 6th of Feb

The course will be taught as a lecture where the teacher will steer the discussion, but the students are expected to actively participate and co-create the lecture. After all, a course on Open Innovation has to be open and engaging by nature.

Participation: It is expected that students participate actively in the different elements of the lecture (preparation, online discussions, discussions in the lectures and exercises).

In addition, students are encouraged to contribute to the platform specially designed for the course (with submission of posts, relevant and interesting articles, blog entries, cases, reports etc.).

Learning Activities include:

Students will be divided into groups and are expected to conduct limited fieldwork within their groups at an organization that is currently designing or implementing an OI project. The lecturer will help in finding/ensuring access to relevant organizations, but students are also free to choose themselves. As for the degree of involvement and methodology, it is completely up to the students to decide but in any case data collection is expected to be limited (e.g. interview, focus group, online data collection, limited action research etc.).
