Kursusnavn (engelsk):T20 Ecommerce and its integration with surrounding systems
Semester:Forår 2013
Udbydes under:cand.it., e-business (ebuss)
Omfang i ECTS:7,50
Kursussprog:Dansk
Kursushjemmeside:https://learnit.itu.dk
Min. antal deltagere:12
Forventet antal deltagere:70
Maks. antal deltagere:80
Formelle forudsætninger:T1 but a short repitition of the ER-diagram and other data models will be given in the first lecture as it otherwise may be difficult to understand the more complex database cases used in this course.
Læringsmål:Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
•Describe complex business system integration with an E-commerce system.
•Identify and describe consistency and/or anomaly problems in E-commerce integration.
•Select, apply and evaluate methods to solve or reduce the problems of E-commerce integration to an acceptable level.
Fagligt indhold:The course’s development of personal competences:
The course qualifies the students for designing E-commerce systems integrated with its surrounding systems. Some examples are listed below:
•E-commerce integration with ERP systems or old legacy systems.
•Integration of different package software products that do not use the same databases as the E-commerce system.
•Integration of fusioned branch offices with heterougenious systems.
•Integration in datawarehouses by using ETL (Extract Transform and Load) products.
•Integration with the systems of the company’s suppliers
•Integration with the systems of the company’s customers
•Logistic management and integration
•Integration of mobile systems
•Migration of E-commerce system to new versions without overnight conversion risks.

E-commerce integrated with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems are examples of how the functions of the value chain of an enterprice may be integrated by using a common database. In this course, we will describe the integration by using ER-diagram (Entity-Relation-diagram) data models of the E-commerce system and its related ERP moduls.
However, in practice it is not always possible to integrate E-commerce and ERP systems by using a common database. Especially the integration with supplier and B2B customer systems cannot use a common database. As an alternative to a common database it is possible to use a distributed database with relaxed ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability) properties. In databases and applications with relaxed ACID properties are data not locked across a dialog with the user or across distributed database locations, but from a user point of view it should function as if the traditional ACID properties have been implemented. That is, data should converge towards a consistent state and it shold not be possible to make wrong decisions even though data temoprarely may be inconsistent.
By using workflows we will illustrate how it is possible to manage the integration of E-commerce with heterogeneious sysems The integration may be optimized by e.g. using SOA service or other inernet techniques.
In this cource, we will also use the ER-diagrams to illustrate how it is possible to design E-commerce datawarehouses integrated with the datawarehouses of the other ERP functions.
Læringsaktiviteter:12 forelæsninger + lejlighedsvis øvelser i forbindelse med undervisningen

The teaching is integrated with exercises and discussion of the solutions. The teaching also consists of supervising the project groups and discussion of the solutions followed by student presentation of their work with the mini project.

Obligatoriske aktivititer:Der er ingen obligatoriske aktiviteter. Vær venlig KUN at ændre denne tekst når der er obligatoriske aktiviteter./
There are no mandatory activities. Please, change this text ONLY when there are mandatory activities.
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern censur

Individuel mundtlig eksamen. Der er i alt afsat 20 minutter pr. studerende. Der tages udgangspunkt i et obligatorisk miniprojekt, der udarbejdes i løbet af semestret, og der eksamineres i hele pensum. Miniprojektet udarbejdes typisk i grupper. Gruppens medlemmer er ansvarlige for hele rapportens indhold. Miniprojektrapporten skal afleveres i 3 eksemplarer til studieadministrationen. Afleveringsdato fremgår af studiekalenderen. Eksamensdato ses i kursusdatabasen.
