See the class homepage for detailed information on requirements and tutorials. Students should be aware that the class is not a vocational class to learn the software itself, but to learn how to use them for a project.

Læringsmål:Please note! The 3D courses at ITU have different focus according to each semester. If you want to work with modelling, you should instead take the Autumn version of this course. The spring version (in English) is in the daytime and focuses on animation, the autumn version (in Danish) is in the evening and focuses on modelling. Goals: The class is a foundation class to acquire, to experience, to analysis, to apply and to evaluate fundamentals of character animation in visual storytelling using 3D CGI. The class is also a critical study of animation media in 3D CG, by experiencing production process while examining traditional film media and its theoretical approach. The class expects students to produce a critical, academic paper on animation media, accompanying a short animated film (max. 1min. with 1 bipedal character).

Fagligt indhold:The class is a foundation class to acquire, to experience, to analysis, to apply and to evaluate fundamentals of character animation in visual storytelling using 3D CGI. The class is also a critical study of animation media in 3D CG, by experiencing production process while examining traditional film media and its theoretical approach.

The focus of the class will be about diverse approaches to character animation, within visual storytelling. For this, film media is chosen for the main class material for its effectiveness in education. Related traditional animation technologies in both 2D (cell, cut-out,etc) and 3D ( puppet, object, stop motion, etc) will be extensively discussed and shown, in connection of its relation to 3D CG.

For the group project, the class will simulate an animation studio, and will produce experiential exercise segments in each class. Students are strongly recommended to attend classes in order to complete in-class projects.Being part of the in-class group project is the mandatory.

For the individual project, the length is maximum 1 min. with 1 bipedal character.

The class emphasizes the critical study of animation media, and the film production itself is taken as 'experiences'. The final report is an academic paper, in nature of comparative, critical analysis-essay on the chosen topic of the class. The paper must use a recognized academic reference system.
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger og øvelser

Students are expected actively to engage themselves and contribute in-class activities, such as discussion, debate, presentation and group exercises. The class has intense production exercises in class-time, which is blending of production and theory course. The production project in-class is mandatory.

There will be a mandatory, project concept presentation in-class, during the semester. The class group projects and individual projects will be shown to the public in the end of the semester.

The class expects students to produce a critical, academic paper on animation media, accompanying a short animated film (max. 1min. with 1 bipedal character).

The group exercise project are done by a mini-group of 3-4 students. In order to focus on animated motion, pre-production materials (design, story and storyboard) will be provided.

Each day, the class will have a specific experiments in character animated motion.

There will be at least one film screening with lecture for the class.

In the end of the class, there will be a screening of the day's work and discussion.

The class will use LUVIT for communication.

Students are responsible for learning the softwares by own initiatives.

Please see the class web page for the detailed class contents.
