Formelle forudsætninger:MTG's first semester course Game Design or equivalent which provides an introductory level knowledge of the following:

- Creation, development and evaluation of game designs and concepts
- Practical knowledge of game genres for game design
- Implementation of at least one game prototype using simple scripting in a prototyping tool
- A structured approach to the game development process from design to prototype

 
Læringsmål:The course objective is to give you a practical introduction to team-based game development as well as the relevant theory behind game technologies. The focus of the course is on development methodologies applied to an actual game production.

After successful completion of the course you should be able to:

- effectively participate as a team member in a specific role on a joint game production
- explain phases in game development (from idea to product)
- discuss the various team roles on a development project
- discuss varying methodologies for game development
- select a method and create a schedule for a production
- describe basic game system architecture
- discuss level design and its integration into a development plan
- integrate 3D games engines into your production process
- address the issue of AI, animation, and sound for a game production 
Fagligt indhold:Building on the course goals the contents of the course will be directly tied to the production of a game with the following specifications:

The game:

- Must be graphically 3D (engine to be determined)
- Should be of the size and scope of a game entered into the Independent Games Festival.(http://www.igf.com/)
- Should be able to be put on the web and could get feedback on it beyond "this is not playable", and
- Should be playable for at least 20 minutes (can be quick sessions but then repeatability becomes a factor)

The final product for this course is a written project that includes:

- Design document
- Development plan
- Written reflection on the dev process
- The game
- A short walkthrough video (suitable for YouTube) of the game
 
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger, øvelser og vejledning

Students are responsible for attending weekly lectures (some of which will likely be by outside guest speakers, often from the game industry) and then working in their groups independently on their game. Besides the day planned for teaching, a day for project work is to be planned.
