You should have knowledge comparable to passing the sourse in software development and/or IT project management at the IT University. Comparable knowledge you would have gained e.g. by managing a small or medium size project or by working as a software engineer for some time.
 
Læringsmål:The goal of the course is to introduce in central themes of current interest in the area of software engineering. The concrete contents of the course is is choosen to represent both topics currently discussed in practice and hot topics in research.

After having read the course you should be able to:
1- discuss state-of-the-art artcles and conference papers in software engineering and project management, in a number of areas,
2- formulate a research question within software engineering and project management on a level that needed for a Master Thesis (Speciale) and
3- outline how such a research question could be answered within software engineering and project management. That also means to draft the research methodology that would be adequate to answer the question.
 
Fagligt indhold:The final selection of topics for the course will take place coordination with the students participating in the course.
The contents of the course could e.g. include:
- Newer software engineering methods like eXtrememe programming, light weight development methodologies, and agile development
- Software proces impovement, maturity models and software quality.
- Project evaluation and project retrospective.
- How use - oriented software development can take place.
- Design in use: how does the software and the organisation interact when introducing a new system.
- Introduction of IT systems in organisations.
- software evolution and the deployment of end-user tailorable systems
- productification of software
- How do organisations learn? Knowledge management.
- off-shore outsourcing


The course might contain topics choosen and presented by the students themselves 
Læringsaktiviteter:

The tuition will take place combining lectures and exercises. Contents of the exercises will address research skill, e.g. how to read state-of-the-art articles, as well as trying out techniques within the topics choosen for the course.

Please remark! In the introductory week from August 29th to September 2nd 2005 teaching takes place only from 9.00 - 12.00. In other words, there are no exercises. 

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 13-skala, Ekstern censur

Students are most welcome to write the report and do presentations in Danish, even though the course is taught in English.  

Litteratur udover forskningsartikler:Yvonne Dittrich (2005). Compendium for VIPS. published during the whole term according to the progress of the course.
