Læringsmål:After the course the student should be able to:

• Identify different metaphors in organization theory, their connection to IT and relevance for innovation and change in contemporary organizations
• Account for practice approaches in analyzing contemporary organizations
• Apply the presented analytical and practical tools in relation to the topics: IT, innovation and change in organizations.
• Critically discuss various perspectives, paradoxes and dilemmas on IT, innovation and change in contemporary organizations 
Fagligt indhold:The objective of the course is to introduce to organization theory and to a pragmatic and practice oriented approaches to innovation and change in organizations. In the first part of the course we will focus on a metaphorical perspective on organization theory as developed by Gareth Morgan. We will look at the implications of applying the different metaphors in analyzing and designing organizational processes.
The second part of the course will take a point of departure in organizational processes as a research field and practical discipline. We focus on pragmatic and systemic contributions to the understanding of organizational change and process management as an organizational discipline. The purpose is to introduce various different practice approaches to working with IT, innovation and change in organizations. We will learn from both a theoretical, empirical and hands on point of view.
The course will consist of 12 weeks of teaching, made up of lectures, exercises and group activities. In the exercise session students may draw on examples and experiences from other courses or their own work experience, just as we will discuss case material that illustrates the various approaches. Additionally, students will be assigned to write a smaller mandatory presentation in the middle of the course.

2) The social construction of reality as a perspective on change and innovation.

How can organizations be understood as social construction and which role does language play? In this session we will investigate the creation of social realities. We will use this to talk about how the use of social media and collaborative software is shaping or creating our realities and social worlds?

4) Design Thinking and proactive planning

12) Summary - Questions for exam

The mandatory presentation needs to be completed/approved before the students are eligible to register for the examination and e.g. being allowed to submit written work for examination. Failure to hand in the mandatory assignment on time will mean that the registration for examination is annulled.

The final grade is based on a written report, which must be 10 standard-pages per student. The report can be written collectively, but assessment is individual. Grading is based on external examination. Examination form C1
