Formelle forudsætninger: | Tech-students should have experience of game design and development, and be able to independently implement algorithms and game prototypes. Familiarity with a game engine and AI algorithms is preferred.
Non tech-students should have experience of game analysis or be able to independently write a story. Familiarity with logical reasoning or pseudo-algorithm is preferred. |
Læringsmål: | After taking the class, students should be able to
- Describe and compare different narrative theories and utilize appropriate theories to design interactive stories
- Apply theoretical narrative models, AI techniques, and authoring tools for building interactive narrative systems
- Critically analyze and evaluate existing digital storytelling systems from an interdisciplinary perspective
- Independently propose and evaluate research ideas in interactive storytelling systems |
Fagligt indhold: | - Theories on plot, believable character, narrative comprehension, emotion, and interface for interactive/non-interactive storytelling
- Computational models of interactive narrative based on AI technology
- Practice/demonstration/exercise on interactive storytelling systems and authoring tools |

Obligatoriske aktivititer: | Each student is required to give at least one presentation about one of the following topics
- A research article
- Analysis of stories in games and digital media using the narrative theories she learned
- Demonstration of interactive storytelling system and tools
Each student is required to submit a group-project (2-3 students) report and give a presentation about
- Implementation of interactive fiction
- Design/Implementation of a story-based game prototype
- Design/Implementation of story generation system |
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse: | X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern prøve Oral Presentation (30 minutes) with written work, External examiner, 7 point marking scale.
