IT-Mediated Global Work Practice: DIMN, is a course study activity (7.5 ECTS) which can be taken by students following the DIM specialization in Global Relations and Networked Practices; or as an elective study activity by all other ITU students.

• Discuss theoretical concepts and insights from computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) research related to globally distributed collaboration (e.g. ViBU game)
• Analyze a globally distributed collaborative situation (e.g. ViBU game) and the use of collaborative technologies by applying the theoretical concepts from CSCW
• Identify challenging as well as enabling conditions, which serve as the foundation for globally distributed collaboration (e.g. ViBU game) and suggest how these might be addressed based upon theoretical as well as practical arguments
• Participate competently in globally distributed collaboration by acting pro-actively in terms of making the collaboration function and bringing in collaborative technologies
Fagligt indhold:Working in a globally distributed context creates certain complexities in terms of how to collaborate with remote partners across boundaries such as geography, time, and culture. This course combines theoretical reflections and practical experiences related to collaborating in IT-mediated global work arrangements.

Firstly, the course offers a theoretical understanding of the diverse set of complexities emergent from working globally e.g. in form of cross-culture collaboration, technology-use-practices within global work, and strategic partnerships in global engagements.

Secondly, the course provides the students with practical experiences in terms of working globally through a number of special designed workshops and events with technology-use and distributed engagement. One core aspect of the course will be the students participation in the ViBu Game, which is a strategic resource games, where students are placed within multinational groups across several universities from Finland, Austria, Australia, US, and India, and over a period of 24 hours are experiencing working globally across geography, time, and culture.

We will use the experiences from the workshops and the game as focal points in bringing the theoretical concepts into practical considerations.

More information on the ViBu game at http://vibuinternational.com/index.html

The Course activities run simultaneously with IT-Mediated Global Work Practice with specialization project: DIMP.

The course is planned for students who make their specialization project within Global Relations and Network Practices at the same time as following the course, but can also be taken as first part of the specialisation or as a single elective study activity.
