Formelle forudsætninger:Mathematical maturity, similar to the highest level of high school math.
 
Læringsmål:The course aims at providing the students with a workable understanding of both theoretical and practical issues in the application, development, and programming of a broad range of image and signal processing algorithms.

After completing this course the student can
- explain the basic concepts of analysis and manipulation of digital images and signals
- describe the related methods and algorithms
- combine and apply these methods to solve new image and signal processing tasks
- do basic programming in Matlab
 
Fagligt indhold:The course covers a broad range of topics in image and signal processing through lectures and hands-on computer exercises, with many examples from real problems in medical imaging, industrial vision, speech processing, and sound generation.

Topics include: introduction to programming in Matlab, analog to digital conversion of signals, histograms, contrast enhancement, filtering, frequency representations, filter design, image and signal restoration, feature detection, local-, global- and multiresolution-analysis, morphological filtering, image segmentation, shape analysis, and colour image processing.

The focus of the course is on methods for image processing and the teachers are researchers in medical image analysis at ITU.

Lectures, Matlab exercises, Class room exercises, mandatory assigments.

NB! In the introductory week, meaning from 30 January to 3 February 2006, exercises are cancelled. This means, that there will be only lectures from 9:00 to 12:00.
