Formelle forudsætninger:This course is the second part of the specialization 'Digital Democratic Citizenship'.

In order to participate in this course you must have attended the first part of the specialization in Digital Democratic Citizenship 
Læringsmål:- Identify and critically assess opportunities and challenges on the crossroad of democracy, citizenship and the process of digitalization
- Analyze and discuss the connection between democracy, technology, and
(political) communication
- Contrast different theories in the academic field and apply them to a practice case
- Reflect critically on the changing role of digital democratic citizenship 
Fagligt indhold:This course builds on the first part of the specialization and examines digital developments and related theories, as they map out an amalgamation of traditional democratic practices and emerging tensions in relation to the ongoing process of digitalization. Using contemporary theoretical concepts, we trace, register and interpret on-going developments, which influence the practice of democracy in digital society. 
Læringsaktiviteter:

The course will combine student-led discussions, short lectures, group work, case analyses and guest lectures. Student participation is critical for a successful completion of the course. It is important to read all required material prior to the class in order to get full benefit from the course. Some class sessions will begin with student presentations. 

Obligatoriske aktivititer:The students are required to actively participate with:

(1) Presentation
All students are required to present their project in relation to an academic text from the syllabus. You can either choose to give an overview of the text or focus on a specific thought within your project.

(2) Research critique
All students are required to select a peer-reviewed journal article on some aspect of digital democracy and critique it. The article should be no more than two years old. The critique should include a summary of the article and focus critically on the theoretical soundness of the study, its contribution to the field, the methodology and the interpretation of results.

(3) Student-led discussion
All students are required to prepare discussion questions and based on those lead a discussion in class. The discussion should relate to the class topic and assess an aspect of the class critically.

Be aware: The student will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, if the mandatory activities are not approved and the student will use an exam attempt. 
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:D11: Aflevering med mundtlig eksamen baseret på aflevering., (7-scale, external exam)

Written assignment
Individual research paper based on semester project.

Oral exam
Defense of project paper plus examination of course syllabus. 30 min per student.
