Courses: Interactive Systems and Project management (ISP) or an equivalent course in the design of interactive systems
- supplemented by basic programming skills, for example acquired by having completed the courses: Introduction to Programming (IP) og Concepts and Tools in Programming (Begreber og Redskaber i Programmering, BRP).
Læringsmål: The purpose of the course is to make the participants familiar with issues, techniques, concepts, and ways of working that are
central to Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and thereby to the design of usable systems. The course focuses specifically on issues and theories related to evaluation methods and the concept of usability.
Fagligt indhold: The HCI course involves lectures, seminars, and weekly assignments. With the concept of usability as their starting point the lectures are about aspects of and techniques for user centred systems development. Three core aspects are effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction, which are all complex notions that vary considerably with the concrete users, tasks, and organizational setting. For many interactive systems, e.g. on the Web, there is a conflict between wanting to design systems that can be used universally and the individual differences between people in the potential target group. Evaluation is a core activity in user centred systems development and is supported by a variety of evaluation methods. Selected evaluation methods will be presented and discussed. Further, the participants will get concrete experiences with the evaluation methods in the assignments, which are made by the participants in small groups. The weekly assignments form a major part of the written assignment that is the basis for the final, individual oral exam. Of the manifold activities systems are intended to support the course pays special attention to information seeking and collaboration. An understanding of how information seeking and collaboration are accomplished and why these activities are complex is important to the successful development of many IT systems.
