We will discuss and explore the dynamics of digital media, democracy, and citizenship. You will respond to claims by journalists and media-makers about digital democratic citizenship, sharpen your analytical skills using theories of digital democratic citizenship, collect empirical data and, discuss the results in class and in writing. We will invite researchers of the Democracy and Citizenship in Digital Society (DECIDIS) initiative at the IT University of Copenhagen to present and discuss their research projects in the light of the issues discussed in class. Students are expected to come prepared to each lecture and actively engage in course activities in-class and specified week-to-week activities.
The students are expected to submit a paper based on an independent research project including empirical work conducted during the semester.
