| Fagligt indhold: | The course focuses mainly on relational databases but also relates to object-relational, object-oriented, logic and XML-based databases.
Firstly SQL and database programming is revisited. Based on a brief introduction to key data structures and indexing principles, an overview of query evaluation and optimization is given. Then transaction management with aspects of recovery, concurrency and distribution is discussed. Security with emphasis on access control as well as integrity with emphasis constraining rules will be surveyed. Basic principles in data warehousing, textual databases, and spatial data will be introduced and advanced mining and querying approaches will be discussed and related to different database types. |
| Læringsaktiviteter: | 12 forelæsninger + frivillige øvelsestimer The course will be conducted as a mixture of ordinary lectures and seminars by students in which research papers will be discussed. In addition there will be exercises and a written assignment. Active participation is required in order to make the course a success. |
| Eksamensform og -beskrivelse: | X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 13-skala, Ekstern censur The examination is oral based on the written assignment with marks given according to the 13-skala system.
