Formelle forudsætninger:This course is the first part of the Communication Design specialization aiming at educating communication specialist. The goal of this course is to introduce theory in the field of media and communication as well as practical design methods. In particular, the course will focus on creating innovate media products and runs parallel with the digital rhetoric course, which focuses on strategic communication and rhetoric. Students who do not intend to continue with the second part of the specialization may also take this first course. 
Læringsmål:After the course students should be able to:

• Identify and describe central issues and methods in the field of media innovation

• Develop creative and innovative new media concepts using methods for systematic and disciplined innovation

• Critically reflect on the role of media and communication theory when designing new media

• Apply design thinking and design methods to the development of new media concepts 
Fagligt indhold:This course teaches students how to create innovate new media. The focus lies on the development of the concept, however, you will also be introduced to some methods of prototyping and testing. In the methods part the course will mainly focus on the method of design thinking, which has been introduced by the Standford School of Design. The course is organized in a problem-based learning approach, and intends to give students the skills that are necessary to participate in digital innovation work in the area of media and communication. Classes will be structured around theoretical lectures as well as hands-on workshops. 
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger, øvelser og vejledning

The class will extend for 14 weeks including lectures, exercise and supervision. 

Obligatoriske aktivititer:Group project/Oral presentation
Students are required to take part in a group project. The final concept will be pitched at the end of the semester.

Short reflection paragraphs
Students are required to write short reflection paragraphs (250-300 words) on a given class topic. The paragraphs will be marked with approved/not approved. Students have to pass 4 out 6 paragraphs.

Project meetings/Supervision
Students are required to attend a minimum of 3 project project/feedback meetings throughout the semester.

Be aware:
Students will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, if the mandatory activities are not approved and the student will use an exam attempt. 
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:D1G Aflevering med mundtlig eksamen baseret på projekt i gruppe. Delt ansvar for projekt., (7-scale, external exam)

D1G Hand-in for groups with following oral exam based on the hand-in.
The group has a shared responsibility for the content of the report. The report is a group report: 15 pages, plus 2 pages per group member;
Example: 5 group members = 25 pages; 1 page = 2300-2500 characters incl.
spaces. Pictures/graphics account for 900 characters. All given numbers
+/- 10 percent. The report can be written either in Danish or English.
The oral exam takes place individually and will be based on the group submission as well as the course syllabus. 30 min per person including feedback.
