Formelle forudsætninger:This project cluster is open to all post graduate students at all ITU study programs, since project content may be specialized according to the individual students’ sub-disciplines and interests.

This includes thesis writers, who may want to write within this subject area or one closely related, and wish to use the cluster as a basis for working with the thesis.
Læringsmål:After the project cluster, the students will be able to:

• Account for and critically assess the role of ICT in social business processes and strategies on the basis of empirical evidence and relevant theories.

• Characterize areas where firms can use ICT to develop and implement socially and economically responsible strategies and processes.

• Characterize social challenges within companies and their global value chains, and analyze how ICT can be used to increase traceability and social standardization to meet those challenges.

• Reflect on the specific contextual variables in developing country markets, and analyze how they impact technology development.

Fagligt indhold:This project cluster is especially relevant for students with an interest in globalization related issues and/or related business strategies and processes.

Within the past decade, social responsibility has increasingly become a focus in business processes globally. A key element in this process has been the use of new technology and/or new ways of using technologies. This project cluster revolves around theories and analysis of the role of ICT in social business strategies and processes within a number of overall themes that may be adapted to the interests of the individual students.

The preliminary themes are as follows:
• Standardization: use of IT in global sourcing in terms of implementing e.g. Fair Trade and CSR standards throughout the value chain.
• New market approaches: ICT as a defining factor in targeting emerging markets, which are sometimes difficult to access in ‘traditional’ ways.
• Developing technologies for emerging markets: specific contextual variables in developing country markets, and their impact on technology development.

-----
Project cluster.

This is a the project cluster: You sign up for this project cluster as if for a normal course.
You will also need to enter your individual project agreement in the project base where it will be assessed by the supervisor and the Board of Studies.

The project cluster will not appear on your diploma but the project that you register in the projectbase will of course appear once you have passed the exam.
Læringsaktiviteter:

The project cluster will be organized as a short course, followed by an intensive project-writing period.

The course will consist of:
• Internal and external lectures on the theoretical issues, expected to be critically discussed with students.
• Presentations of practical cases by external firms/organizations that work on connecting business and social responsibility in practice.
In some cases, ICT will already be a defining factor for their business practices, in other cases the exercise will be identifying and discussing ways ICT may be a facilitator.

Students are expected to have read the indicated texts prior to each class. Each class will be a critical discussion involving the students, the external presenters, and the teacher as a critical facilitator.

The project cluster is expected to be equivalent to 7.5 ECTS points. Thus, you can expect to spend around 9 hours weekly (including lectures, preparation, project-work and supervision). However, the actual working load will in the end depend on the project you are writing (e.g. theses are equivalent to 30 ECTS, whereas other projects count differently).
