Formelle forudsætninger:First semester courses Game Prototyping and Games & Culture or equivalent which provide an introductory level knowledge of the following:

- Creation, development and evaluation of game designs and concepts
- Knowledge of game genres for game design
- Implementation of at least one game prototype using simple scripting in a prototyping tool
- A structured approach to the game development process from design to prototype 
Fagligt indhold:The course objective is to give you a practical introduction to team-based game development. The goal is for you to make, in a team, a game that fits the scope of student-friendly game festivals such as A-Maze, IndieCade, or IGF.

The focus of the course is on development methods applied to an actual game production. We want you to create a game that could be submitted to a festival. For that, you will need to identify what makes your game unique, what is its technical and design essence, and how can you best communicate it. All of these constitute the evaluation criteria for your production.

We expect students to produce either small, short, contained playable experiences that are to a certain extent finished, or a vision-driven game. The created game should offer at least 20 minutes of varied gameplay. If the game is a multiplayer game, that means that one can play several times for a shorter duration but the gameplay is deep enough to play out differently each time. The game should be complete in that it should have a beginning and an end.

The production process of the game is based on a project plan and a macro design document devised by the team members. Additionally the teams will produce a marketing plan and model a business case for the game. As part of the evaluation criteria, students will be required to produce a trailer and a presskit, as well as an argumentation about the technical feasibility of the final production.

The duration of the oral exam is 20 minutes per group.

The hand-in for this course is the game and a written report that consists of a group part and an individual part. The grade is based on all parts of the hand-in plus the oral exam.

The game will be graded in originality, design and production quality. These criteria will be based on goals mutually agreed between the course managers and the teams as part of the learning activities.

The group part of the report consists of:
- a short description of the game
- the macro design document
- the project plan
- the marketing plan and budget for the game
- the press kit

The group report will be graded according to how well the business case is argued and how adequate the project and marketing plans are for the developed game.

The individual part is a critical reflection of the role the student played in the team and during the development process. In the argumentation, the student should use references from the course literature and other sources to illustrate, generalize and contextualize her arguments and reflections.

The oral exam consists of a presentation of the trailer, plus a description of the feasibility of the production. Students will be examined on their capacity to argue that as a group they can complete the project, and that the project is both unique and original, and technically feasible.

A group consists of 4-6 people.
