Formelle forudsætninger: | The recommended prerequisites are:
Basic programming skills, for example obtained by completing the Introduction to Programming or by attending the Tools and Concepts in Programming in parallel.
Very basic knowledge of algorithms.
|
Læringsmål: | The purpose of this course is to give a general introduction to
databases in terms of both application and foundation. More
specifically, the aim is that the student should:
¿ Obtain knowledge about the structure of database systems
¿ Be familiar with design of databases by use of special notations like E/R and analysis through normalization
¿ Get an overview of the most important database models and a detailed knowledge about the most important model - the relational model
¿ Be familiar with relational algebra and SQL, and finally
¿ Obtain knowledge about application programming for database systems
|
Fagligt indhold: | We introduce to systems, models, language and design in connection with databases. Systems and language will among others be complemented with practical exercises using a fully developed database system (Oracle), and cental aspects regarding the architecture of database systems will be touched upon. We will put emphasis on the contemporary data models, such as the relational and the object-relational data model. We will introduce to database languages, with emphasis on SQL. We will furthermore
introduce to a theoretical approach to database design, including semantically rich models like the E/R model, and give a short introduction to Java Database Connectivity.
