Fagligt indhold:The digital economy is reshaping the way we do business. This happens despite the downturn in the New Economy and the melting down of dot com companies in 2000/2001. The convergence of information and communication technologies is leading to massive transformation of our economy. This transforms the organization as radically as telephone, railroads and airline travel transformed the economy in the past. The ongoing creations of the new electronic infrastructure affect industry structures and individual organizations. Consequently, future managers need to understand how to integrate ICT with innovative forms of organizing to develop effective e-business strategies.
This course provides an understanding of the applications, base line technologies, changing skill sets, new business concepts and above all new business tactics/strategies that organizations need to master in order to manage and lead their e-business initiatives. This course explores the Internet and related technologies including portals/search engines, electronic payment systems, EDI, security, knowledge management technologies and the like. The focus is on how organizations can exploit and have exploited Internet and related technologies as a means to effectively reshape and (re-)direct their business strategy. We will examine business cases where firms have developed e-business based solutions, and we will look at new information products and services, such as electronic shopping and publishing, one-to-one marketing, electronic distribution, e-media, e-markets, business-to-business integration, and net-enabled transactions. We will emphasize the need to understand the ways we can integrate novel technological solutions in business.
Læringsaktiviteter:

12 lectures + 10 exercise sessions

The key learning activities in this class is preparation for the weekly lectures by reading the course material, active participation in the lectures, active use of the course blog (including subscription to the feeds), participation in the exercises, and writing up the essay and report during the course.

Each week, the lectures will be followed by two hours of exercises. Exercises are the tool to digest the readings and train the students in what business literature essential is all about: identify the problem, outline different approaches to meet the challenge, aim to minimize risks and maximize the potential gains, take appropriate action, and monitor and follow-up actions during the implementation and exploitation phase.

The exercises are supervised and assisted by a teaching assistant and will be an opportunity for students to prepare for the exam and to work with the theories and models from the lectures.

Each exercises class will have a student presentation of one of 10 cases related to the topic of the lecture. The cases are analyzed and discussed as part of the exercises to highlight the importance of the technical and managerial concepts being introduced into the business context.

After the case presentation students will solve a set of questions during the exercises that are relevant according to the lecture of the day. The exercises are carried out in groups and aim at preparing the students for the exam as well as applying the theories and models presented in the lectures. At the end of the exercise class the solutions to the assignments will be discussed in plenary.
