Kursusnavn (dansk):Design til digitale kommunikationsplatforme I
Kursusnavn (engelsk):Design for Digital Communication Platforms I
Semester:Efterår 2014
Udbydes under:cand.it., digital design og kommunikation (ddk)
Omfang i ECTS:10,00
Kursussprog:Engelsk
Kursushjemmeside:https://learnit.itu.dk
Min. antal deltagere:12
Forventet antal deltagere:85
Maks. antal deltagere:85
Formelle forudsætninger:Note: This course is for students who are admitted to the
MSc in Digital Design and Communication.

It is expected to be familiar with using the computer and the
Internet.

There is no requirement for formal prerequisites, but knowledge of
image editing software (eg. Photoshop) would be an advantage.
Students who are less familiar with computers and the Internet,
can expect to require extra time for exercises.

The course is taught in Danish and English depending on the
lecturer. The book and most of the material is in English.
The students can make their tasks in Danish and they can be
examined also in Danish, but they must be able to understand and
communicate in English.
Moreover the student must always meet the admission requirements of the IT University.
Læringsmål:After the course, students should be able to:

Produce own solutions of digital products for digital
communications platforms in a structured and creative process,
from concept development to the creation of interactive
prototypes.

Integrate basic usability and user experience concepts, and
target group knowledge in the development of interactive digital
products.

Apply basic principles of digital design and put them into practice
by working with image processing tool (eg Photoshop). Integrate
them in own solutions.

Integrate the basic tools and techniques for producing frontend
solutions in HTML5, CSS and jQuery. Understand the basic
principles of programming frontend behaviours.

Argue for own design solutions, bringing up the practical and
theoretical aspects of their choices of technique, form and
content in designing products for digital platforms.

Reflect and relate own design solution to similar solutions and
situations.
Fagligt indhold:Course objectives are that students will be able to develop
interactive digital communications solutions for screen display on
mobile and static platforms, both in terms of content, design and
implementation.

The course provides an introduction to the Internet as a medium
that allows both textual, visual and auditory communication. Both
communication and visual aesthetic experiences should be
designed, and the course will emphasize that students are able to
design communication and visual experiences on the web.

The student will work in groups to develop an interactive
prototype of a website or an application for smartphones and
tablets.

The lectures will give an introduction on topics such as media
theory, history of WWW, digital copyright, cross-media
communication, design methods, graphic design theory and basic
digital design principles for the web and the mobile web,
information architecture, target group analysis, usability, user
experience, and social media.

Exercises will enable the student to produce digital products using
HTML5, CSS and jQuery and to understand basic programming
principles. Furthermore, exercises will introduce and demonstrate
image editing tools like Photoshop. From the exercise and the
lectures the students will be able to find the initial resources to
produce interactive prototypes of their digital solutions.

When assessing the final assignment, particular emphasis will be
given on knowledge of communication strategies in digital
communications platforms, possible technical solutions,
functionality, content, design and the ability to theoretically and
practically reflect on the interplay between technology, form and
content.
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger og øvelser

14 weeks of teaching consisting of lectures and exercises
14 weeks of teaching, consisting of lessons and exercises.
Exercise lessons include individual "hands-on" exercises and group
homework assignments. Schedule information will be available
shortly before the start of the semester.

Obligatoriske aktivititer:Four mandatory individual assignments, and a half-way group
hand-in of the project description.
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern prøve

External examination, 7-point marking scale, C: Hand-in Exam.
Along with the written hand-in work, it is required an interactive
prototype of a communication solution. Such solution should
comply with requirements specified during the course.

Litteratur udover forskningsartikler:There will be produced a compendium of the course, that is
assumed participants will purchase.
