Formelle forudsætninger:This course is the second part of the Communication Design specialisation. In order to qualify for this course, students must first take the first part, which is called "Communication Design: Applied Methods and Techniques" and runs in the spring semester.
Læringsmål:After the course students should be able to:
• Apply knowledge about genre, rhetoric, communication and business models to the development of innovative communication concepts
• Develop communication concepts from basic ideas to user-testable prototypes
• Conduct and report on a practice-based research by design project
Fagligt indhold:Please note, that due to technical challenges, changes may occur before the start of the semester (week 35) – this applies to all sections of the course description.

Together with the first course of this specialization, this course teaches students how to combine media and communication skills with design methods to create innovative new media products for a variety of digital platforms. The course is organised in a problembased learning approach, and intends to give students the skills that are necessary to participate in digital innovation work in the media industries. Most of the teaching will be highly student-active, focusing on the students’ own work with practical cases and projects.

This second course of the specialization will be structured around a practical, semester-long project done in collaboration with one or more external partner(s). The projects should aim to develop innovative communication concepts to a prototype state where they can be meaningfully tested and evaluated with real users. The main focus of this development work is on how to create communication concepts which create value for both employers/external partners and ordinary users/audiences.
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger, øvelser og vejledning

Note: Some lectures and class activities will take place in English.

Obligatoriske aktivititer:Content
Compulsory class attendance on first day of class + at two compulsory presentations.
In addition, each student must prepare and lead class activites once during the semester, based on a schedule agreed with the teachers.

Workload
The presentations are part of the project work. They are likely to demand a large part of the student’s time in the last week before the presentation is to be held.
Leading class activity will require careful reading and preparation in advance, and will demand extra effort in the relevant time period.

Activities
It is compulsory for all students to take part in preparing the group presentations, and be present when they are held. It is not required that all students speak during the presentations.

Feedback
Supervising in class and in groups

What if the student fails to pass a mandatory activity:
If a group testifies that someone did not participate in preparing the group presentation, it is treated as a group conflict. The teachers may attempt to facilitate a solution to the conflict, but if that fails, the student(s) in question may at the teacher’s discretion be removed from the group and asked to do a separate project alone or together with other students.
If a student fails to prepare and lead classroom activities according to the agreed upon schedule, s/he needs to provide a sick note from a doctor. Otherwise, if it is not possible to find room for a second attempt in the schedule, the student will receive the grade NA. In the case of a re-sit exam, students who have not previously completed this compulsory activity will be asked to write a report in addition to the exam project.

Students who are unable to attend a compulsory course day will be given an essay assignment that must be passed in stead.

Be aware: The student will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, if the mandatory activities are not approved and the student will use an exam attempt.
