Læringsmål:Having completed the course, the student should be able to:

1) Develop research questions that allow for exploratory and inductive inquiry into an empirical case through an iterative process of data collection, analysis, and storytelling.

2) Apply selected methods and conceptual tools to analyze complexity in an empirical case.

3) Interpret data visualizations generated using the technical and conceptual tools provided in the course.

4) Reflect upon the decisions made in the research process relating data visualizations to the development of the research question or focus.

5) Discuss the relationship between chosen methods, theories, and data, and their implications for the findings. 
Fagligt indhold:The course will teach students to describe and analyse complexity within an empirical case that explores a current topic or controversy within the field of science, technology, and innovation. Students will be introduced to a range of conceptual and technical tools for generating and visualizing data and analyzing complexity. Throughout the course students will experiment with different techniques for generating data and visualizing complexity. They will learn a variety of qualitative approaches to quantitative data, focusing on inductive, exploratory inquiry into relational networks. Based on case work, students will be requested to reflect on how visualizations work as simplifications and can inform decision-making. After the course, students will be capable of dealing with, communicating, and acting constructively in situations faced by complex challenges without obvious or straightforward solutions. 
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger, øvelser og vejledning

Each week students have 2x2 hours of lecture and 2x2 hours of exercises.

During exercises students will be divided into groups of 40 working with Tas to practically engage with the exercises and topics of the week. 

Obligatoriske aktivititer:There are two written mandatory activities in the course that are required for participation in the final group report and oral exam.

These are: 1) submission of individual weekly reflections on the course literature and exercises; and 2) hand in of a group lab notebook tracking weekly progress at three points during the semester. These mandatories will form the basis for feedback from peers and instructors. However, these will be graded P/F and evaluated solely on the basis of successful, timely submission.

Students are strongly encouraged to attend exercises as these will sometimes include group work in support of the completion of mandatory assignments.

An oral presentation of group work is required at the end of the semester.

Be aware: The student will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, if the mandatory activities are not approved and the student will use an exam attempt. 
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:D2G Aflevering med mundtlig eksamen der supplerer projekt. Delt ansvar for projekt., (7-scale, external exam.)

Group size: 4-6 students

Reports are handed in by groups and students are examined as a group and evaluated on the basis of demonstration of fulfilment of the intended learning objectives for the course.

The final report should be 15 pages plus 3 additional pages per student in the group (i.e. a 4 person group will have a 27 page report) excluding front and end matter and figures.

Duration of the oral exam: 30 minutes per student in the group incl. assessment and feedback.
