Fagligt indhold:The second portion of the Mobile Communication specialization is designed to give students insight into the regulatory, business, design and the social consequences of the mobile communications industry. As is obvious, there are many different areas of mobile media. Since it has grown into a major industry, there are many actors who are involved. The work of this semester will expose the students to three important areas. In the case of regulation there are different regulatory approaches practiced around the world. These include more vertically integrated regimes, such as that in Japan, those that are more market drive, i.e. the US and systems where regulators interact with market mechanisms such as in Europe. In addition there are regulations associated with the establishment of companies, regulation of resellers and general issues associated with regulation of radio frequency. Finally, there are regulatory issues concerning privacy. Moving to the business portion of the class there are many different forms of subscriptions, marketing strategies, market segmentation approaches, etc. This portion of the class will examine these. As with the previous two sections, the mobile handset and mobile service design is an important area. This is increasingly true as different types of net-enabled handsets are being developed and as Apps are arriving on the scene. Finally the social consequences of the mobile phone and mobile media are being felt in both the developed world and, perhaps more importantly, in the broader global context. The course will help the student to characterize and understand these issues.
