Formelle forudsætninger: The following are prerequisites for following this module: At least one of \"Interaction Design\"; \"Target Group Analysis\"; \"User Perspectives and Media of the Future\". In addition, ability to use Adobe Photoshop and MS Powerpoint. It is an advantage to be able to use either Macromedia Flash or Macromedia Director, as both are good simulation tools for iTV. 
Læringsmål: To enable the student to work with programme, production, and technical staff on the development and validation of concepts and formats for enhanced and interactive digital television programmes and services with special emphasis on the European market. In addition to digital cable, satellite and terrestrial television, concept and format development will also cover related platforms such as Personal Digital Recorders (PVRs); televisual broadband content delivered on a variety of broadband infrastructures; cross media format development including mobile telephony for the back channel. 
Fagligt indhold:Status of digital television and broadband in Europe
- definitions of eTV, iTV, EPG/ECG, STB, t-gambling, t-commerce, t-banking, interactive advertising
- the implications of digital transmission (cable, satellite, terrestrial) for eTV and iTV
- devices (TV, STB, computer, PVR, mobile terminals)
- services (TV, video on demand, near video on demand, information, communication and transaction-based services such as t-shopping, banking, gambling, games)
- market trends (services, forecasts for household penetration)

Analysis of existing show formats, services and demos
- review of eTV and iTV genre
- cases primarily from Denmark
- review of formats for interactive advertising, t-banking, t-commerce and t-gambling

The technological contexts and constraints of enhanced and interactive formats
- Review of the transmission chain to the broadcaster to the viewer and back again (i.e. front end, back end, modems pools etc.) for Tele Denmark Cable, Viasat, Canal Digital and Digital Terrestrial television
- What impact does the transmission path and return channel have on the creative freedom for developing formats
- what are the key differences between satellite, cable and terrestrial transmission and the implications of developing formats for delivery across two or more of these systems?
- The impact of the API in a given STB on the format
- Return channels: options and limitations

Methods and tools for developing and validating new interactive formats from idea to dummy

Læringsaktiviteter:

 Lectures, lecturers from visiting digital television and broadband specialists, group work, compulsory individual assignments 

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 13-skala, Intern censur

 25% of the course grade will be based on completion of 4 individual assignments during the term.
75% of the course grade will be based on an individual written examination lasting a total of 7 hours at the end of which the student has to produce a pitch material, work plan and budget for a draft format which has to be validated using a simulator.
All aids are permitted - including PC.
