Formelle forudsætninger:It is a requirement that you have taken the course Interaction Design or that you have similar
qualifications, i.e.that your are able to:
- Plan and carry out minor design projects.
- Use a variety of analysis and design methods relevant for interactive products.
- Identify and reflect on a number of theoretical issues related to exploratory design processes.

Information about the course of study
This course is mandatory for students who are enrolled on the Master of Science in IT, study programme Digital Design and Communication. 
Læringsmål:By the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Diagnose user and business factors that shape their innovation’s environment,
• Define innovation opportunities and turn them into actionable innovation recommendations,
• Choose and apply appropriate tools for concept generation, visualization, and testing as they develop new products, services, or communications,
• Develop a strategic innovation plan for a product or service that is persuasive and viable in terms of design, technology, profitability (or alternative measures of success) and adoption,
• Assess innovation’s implications for organizational strategy and users,
• Manage the overall process of developing a digital product/service from the initial concept to its launch,
• Communicate their innovation concepts effectively and persuasively, and
• Improve their team working skills. 
Fagligt indhold:This course focuses on enhancing students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills in developing a product/service from the very first idea to its launch, including innovation, concept development, and project management.

In small project teams, students will go through the process of product/service development - from idea generation to a fully developed business case for its launch. The emphasis will be on products or services that relate to or involve digital technologies. Students will develop skills required for doing user and market research, business context analysis, creative and innovative thinking, project management and innovation planning, and managing design. 
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger og øvelser

Lectures and Assignments (14 Weeks).

The course consists of 14 weeks of lectures and workshop sessions. The lectures will be conducted primarily by the instructor. You are required to read the assigned material in advance and be ready to discuss it in class. The workshop sessions will involve working in teams on assignments and the final project.

During the semester, you will also be required to make short presentations about your innovation concept.

NB! Course restriction II!
Note that there is a large overlap between this course and the course Concept Development and Interactive Digital Media. This means that you cannot take this course if you took the Concept and Interactive Digital Media.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern censur

Mandatory Assignments: You are required to hand in mandatory assignments throughout the semester in order to be eligible to submit written work for the final exam. Failure to hand in a given assignment on time will mean that your registration for the examination is annulled, and that you fail the course. Mandatory assignments include:

o Modeling of the Problem/Opportunity Space
o Value Statement
o Concept Paper & Presentation
o Business Model Assignment
o Positioning Diagrams
o Final Project Presentation

The due date for each assignment and further details will be announced in class.

Final Project Report. Your final report will consist of:
(1) An Innovation Plan (Max. 30-page),
(2) An individually prepared short paper critically reflecting on the concept development process of your project team, and
(3) Team Evaluation.

Submission/completion of mandatory activities before Friday 2. December 2011 at 15:00.
