Course themes include theories and models of innovation, identification of innovation opportunities, competitive analysis and strategy development, business model development, economic value creation by design, application of design methods and tools to a wide range of organizational problems, and the role of design as an agent of social change. With a team-based, hands-on approach, you will design new products or services from initial framing to final solution proposals, using tools and methods for analyzing and visualizing the forces that affect organizations and innovation as well as for developing design concepts and related business models.

The course consists of lectures, workshops, and independent group work. The lectures and workshops will take place in 2 weekends (Saturday + Sunday) in the fall. You are required to work in groups outside the scheduled lecture days and meet the course instructor.
Lectures will provide you with the concepts and tools to understand the business environment and identify strategic innovation opportunities. Workshops will allow you to engage with different design planning tools and frameworks. Group work will enable you to collaborate with a team of peers in developing a strategic innovation plan as well reflecting on how you can communicate such innovations to different audiences.
