Formelle forudsætninger:Participants must have programming experience in Java or C++ corresponding to at least two semester courses. They must be familiar with concurrency/threading and object oriented programming.

Knowledge of mathematics corresponding to an introductory course on analysis.

Knowledge of computer hardware is an advantage. 
Læringsmål:The goal of the course is to enable participants to create programming abstractions based directly on the hardware e.g. packages for floating point arithmetic, threading or communication. 
Fagligt indhold:The main part of the course consists of programming projects constructing packages that creates programming abstractions e.g. by adding or modifying a Java virtual machine (VM).

There will be lectures and seminars on the principles behind programming abstractions.

Reading of documentation of existing packages. 
Læringsaktiviteter:

The course consists of a mixture of lectures, seminars and programming projects.

This is the first offering of this course, so participants should be prepared to take part in the development of the course material. 

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 13-skala, Ekstern censur

The examination is an oral examination of the projects groups focusing on a
project report handed in at the end of the semester. Each student is
examined up to 30 minutes. Some questions are addressed to the whole group
while others are individual questions. Each group may decide whether to use
Danish or English during the examination.



All written materials are allowed during the examination, however, computers
are not allowed. There is no preparation time.



Deadline for handing in the projects at the Examination Office is Friday
21th of November 2003 before 12:00.
