This course is part of the specialisation in Process Innovation and New Business Models and is intended for students in their second or third semester. We strongly recommend that DIM students do not begin a specialisation in their first semester  
Læringsmål:After the course the students should be able to:
1. Use the Business Model Canvas and the Value Proposition Canvas as a tool for business model and customer development
2. Explain and discuss key economic concepts of digitalization, both on the microeconomic and the macroeconomic level
3. Apply theories and frameworks covered in class to conduct a case analysis
4. Set the digitization into the context of historical technological change
5. Reflect on how current and prospective digital developments may provide opportunities for new business models and their societal impact 
Fagligt indhold:The aim of the course is to provide the students the skills to sense and understand how digital technologies create or enable radically new business models, reshape the economy and the way businesses operate.
The course introduces the Business Model Canvas and the Value Proposition Canvas as two key tools for developing and analyzing new business models. The course adresses the economic implications of digitalization, both from a business and societal perspective, and sets digitalization into the context of previous industrial revolutions.
Case studies are an essential part of the course and students will work with cases from different industries. Types of business models include multi-sided platforms, unbundling as a business model and a range of other business model archetypes. 
Læringsaktiviteter:

The course will be taught as 12 sessions from 12 - 16 with 2 hours of lecture and 2 hours of exercises. In addition, one full workshop day will be held on february 5 from 8 – 16.

Lectures will be a mix of regular lectures given by the course teachers and guest lectures bringing in case and industry-focused presentations.

• Business Model Archetypes: Unbundling & Platforms
• The Environment Map & the Business Model Design & Testing Process: The Progress Board
2. Economic concepts of digital technology (Assignment 2)
• Microeconomics (cost structures & pricing)
• Macroeconomics (employment, (in)equality & growth)
• Technological change (industrial revolutions)
3. New business models in different industries (Assignment 3)
• Organizational focus: Enterprise agility & Agile software
• Digital platforms & Ecosystems
• Industry focus: Digitalization and new business models in the energy / Industrial production secotrs
4. New business models in different industries (Exam synopsis)
• Industry focus: Digitalization and new business models in Media / Music / Fintech (to be determined). Guest lecture
• Sector focus: Digitalization and new business models in the public sector: PSI Re-Use and the PSI Directive. Case: Lectio
• Sector focus: Digitalization and new business models in the not-for-profit sector. Case: Specialisterne 

Obligatoriske aktivititer:Activities
Three group assignments have to be handed in / presented. Deadlines for the mandatory exercises and the detailed requirements for each exercise will be presented at the introduction to the course and will be posted on the course blog.


Be aware: The student will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, if the mandatory activities are not approved and the student will use an exam attempt. 
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:D2G Aflevering med mundtlig eksamen der supplerer projekt. Delt ansvar for projekt., (7-trins-skala, Ekstern prøve)

Group or individual hand-in with following individual oral exam in the full syllabus supplemented by the hand-in. The hand in should be 6-8 pages excluding figures +2 pages per student in the group (e.g. 10-12 pages for a group of 3). Shared responsibility for the report

Maximum group size is 4.
Duration of individual exam: 20 minutes per student incl. assessment and feedback.
