Formelle forudsætninger:First semester course Game Design or equivalent which provides an introductory level knowledge of the following:

- Creation, development and evaluation of game designs and concepts
- Practical knowledge of game genres for game design
- Implementation of at least one game prototype using simple scripting in a prototyping tool
- A structured approach to the game development process from design to prototype

Information about the course of study
This course is mandatory for students who are enrolled Games programme, Design & Theory + Design track. 
Læringsmål:After the course the student should be able to:
- design and develop an original game in a group
- reflect on and act in her role as a team member of a joint game production
- describe all phases of game development (from idea to product)
- describe the various team roles on a development project
- explain the effect of different development methodologies on a game development project
- create an appropriate project plan for a games production based on established development methods
- argue a business case
- describe basic game system architecture
- evaluate, select and integrate game engines into the game production process
- evaluate what AI, animation, and sound approaches are appropriate for a particular game project 
Fagligt indhold:The course objective is to give you a practical introduction to team-based game development as well as the relevant theory behind game technologies and production.

The focus of the course is on development methods applied to an actual game production. The created game should offer at least 20 minutes of varied gameplay. If the game is a multiplayer game, that means that one can play several times for a shorter duration but the gameplay is deep enough to play out differently each time. The game should be complete in that it should have a beginning and an end.

The production process of the game is based on a project plan and a macro design document devised by the team members. Additionally the teams will produce a marketing plan and model a business case for the game.

Students are responsible for attending weekly lectures (some of which will be by outside guest speakers, often from the game industry) and then working in their groups independently, yet supervised, on their game.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:D22: Aflevering med mundtlig eksamen suppleret af aflevering., (7-scale, external exam)

The duration of this oral exam is 30 minutes.

The final product for this course is a game and a written report that consists of a group part and an in individual part. The game contributes 70% to the final grade. The group report, individual report and oral exam each contribute 10% to the final grade. The game will be graded in originality, design and production quality.

The group part of the report consists of:
- a short description of the game
- the macro design document
- the project plan
- the marketing plan and budget for the game

The group report will be graded according to how well the business case is argued and how adequate the project and marketing plans are for the developed game.

The individual part of the report consists of:
- a reflection on the development process
- a critical reflection of the role the student played in the team
In the argumentation, the student should use references from the course literature and other sources to illustrate and contextualize her arguments and reflections.
