Dette kursus indgår på tredje semester på bacheloruddannelsen i digitale medier. 
Læringsmål:After the course students should be able to: 
• Describe basic aspects of mobile technologies use and their functions. 
• Apply theoretical communication and sociological media theories to critically reflect upon the state of mobile media and social information technologies in today´s society. 
• Analyze current uses of mobile phones, connecting them to mobile phone history and theory. 
• Explain connections between mobile phone usage and the social significance of digital media in contemporary society. 
• Discuss basic concepts of cellular technology while analyzing mobile platforms and mobile social software as they relate to social uses. 
• Explain how mobile, wireless interfaces influence communication and society.  
Fagligt indhold:This course provides a theoretical, analytical and practical overview of the state of mobile technologies in contemporary society. It explores the emergence of mobile social media and their influence on communication patterns and social behavior. Throughout the course, students learn how to conceptualize cell phones beyond mobile telephones (i.e., two-way voice communication devices). Rather, they are defined as mobile interfaces, micro-computers, remote controls and a gaming devices. The lecture class focuses on the history, current uses and future perspectives for the global social use of mobile interfaces. 

Along the course we will address issues such as: 
• History of mobile communication and individual communication
• Technical issues
• Global adoption
• The global south
• Texting and photo interaction
• Microcoordination
• Mobile phones as taken for granted and Social Network analysis
• Location based services
• The future of mobile communication
• Youth and youth culture

In summary, the course combines theory and practice in order to help students understand the various facets of mobile communication technologies today, focusing on their history, current uses and social appropriation of technology in a global world.

Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger, øvelser og vejledning

12 lectures, 11 exercise sections and the last two weeks supervision. 
In addition to the lectures, students are expected to collaborate with each other in class discussions, group presentations, and a practical project that is meant to apply the concepts and theory learned during the course. 

Students are expected to: 
• Be present in class; 
• Contribute to the class with your ideas, comments and questions; 
• Actively participate in the course, answering the instructor's questions and engaging in class discussions. 

The course will consist of the following mandatory assignments:
• complete the weekly readings and write at least 5 summarizing points for the readings in 8 of the 12 weeks of the course
• attendance at the lectures where the student will have to write at least 5 summarizing points for 8 of the 12 lectures.
• completion of a practical group project (i.e. the development of a short video presentation on some dimension of mobile communication) In order to complete this there will be a mandatory hand-in on 17. September (a proposal), on 1. October (a storyboard), on 29. October (a preview) and on 19. November (a presentation).
• completion of a final exam consisting of an individual short academic paper. The student will also have to hand in a short proposal (on 24. September) and an outline for the paper (on 8. October) in addition to the formal hand in on 12-12-2012 no later than 15:00

Submission/completion of mandatory activities before Friday 30 November 2012 at 15:00.

The exam is based on the individual short academic paper. 
Students are required to complete ALL assignments in order to take the final exam. Only the final exam will be graded.
