Læringsmål:The course provides managers of the future an understanding of the Internet technologies, business concepts and strategic opportunities that organizations need to master in order to plan, manage and execute their electronic business initiatives.
Fagligt indhold:The digital economy is reshaping the way we do business. This happens despite the downturn in the New Economy and the melting down of the dot coms. The convergence of computer and communication technologies is leading to massive transformation of our economy. This transforms the organization in a similar manner as telephone, railroads and airline travel transformed the economy in the past. The ongoing creations of the new electronic infrastructure affect organizational strategies, market structures and industrial organization. Consequently, future managers need to understand how to integrate new information technology with innovative forms of organizing to develop effective e-business strategies.

This course provides an understanding of the applications, base line technologies, changing skill sets, and business concepts that organizations need to master in order to manage and lead their e-business initiatives. We study internet technologies and associated new forms of e-business.

Thus this course provides an overview of the evolving and expanding set of Internet technologies. These include the e-commerce, the Internet itself, portals and search engines, electronic payment systems, interoperability, security, and e- marketing and the like. The focus is on how organizations can exploit and have exploited Internet technologies as a means to effectively reshape and direct an organization's strategy. To this end we will examine business cases where firms have developed e-business based solutions. We will look at new information products and services, such as electronic shopping and publishing, one-to-one marketing, electronic distribution, e-markets and business-to-business integration, and net-enabled transactions. We will emphasize the need to understand the ways we can integrate novel technological solutions in business.

The course includes a number of guest lectures, cases describing actual business decisions, reports on emerging technologies and interactive and intense class discussions.

Each student must in groups of 2 - 3 people prepare a case report and present a case in class. (max 10 pages)

Each student must prepare and present an argumentative essay on an emerging e-business technology or concept. (max 1 - 2 pages)
