Formelle forudsætninger: Students must have one of three backgrounds depending on their position in the production. The first week will be used to set-up groups and introduce the area of serious games in broad terms. You should have knowledge of computer games.

  • 3D graphic skills: You should have experience with working graphically with 3D for example modeling, texturing and animation.
  • Programming skills: You should have some programming skills. There will be both be room for light programmers and more trained programmers.
  • Concept skills: Experience and understanding for preferable all of the relevant areas within serious games: Game design, IT & Learning and concept development.

We aim to establish groups that include different skills but people must be ready to broaden their competence area and scope the project in light of lack or abundances of certain profiles. However, there is room to scope projects so they fit competences.

Through the on-going research project it will be possible to use some assets to push the prototype forward. Assets will for example include characters, buildings and props.

Læringsmål: The overall goal is to gain practical knowledge of existing skills by using them on developing a specific prototype in collaboration with other students. Students will also gain knowledge about serious games as a specific area of computer games.

Students will be able to create a concept document or undertake a construction project informed by scholarly research in the field. In addition, the project could serve as preparatory work for the thesis.

Fagligt indhold: The course uses the first month to get the students up-to-speed on the area of serious games, the game technology and assets so they can begin their own project.

Week 1: General introduction to serious games, groups, design, project and outcomes. (2 hours)
Week 2: Serious games UNITY crash course (3 hours lecture and 3 hours lab) (concept doc)
Week 3: Serious games 3 hours lecture and 3 hours lab (Design doc. draft)
