Læringsmål: | After the course, the student should be able to:
Discuss the concept of play from an interdisciplinary perspective, focusing on its social and cultural importance
Articulate the difference between play and games
Analyze interactive digital experiences in terms of different play types
Apply the concept of play as a design principle
Design, and implement or video-prototype a digital play experience |
Fagligt indhold: | We will explore play in an interdisciplinary manner, and stake out its cultural, anthropological, sociological and psychological meaning. Particular emphasis will be placed on the difference between play and games, the social importance of play, and its relationship to creativity. We will contextualize play within 20th and 21st century art and media practice, investigate the relationship between play and interaction design, and explore (in both theory and practice) how play provides powerful emotional, social and cognitive experiences that can be used in the creation of digital experiences or products.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse: | X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern censur Final hand-in consists of:
- A working prototype or video prototype of a digital interactive experience that uses play as the central interaction and conceptual model. Prototypes are done in groups.
The design project does not have to be a working prototype. A video prototype is sufficient. Those with computing experience are, however, free to use whatever technology they are comfortable with, from Arduino to HTML.
- A 2500 words individual reflection that uses the course literature to analyze the prototype as a case study
