Kursusnavn (engelsk):Locative Media
Semester:Forår 2019
Udbydes under:Bachelor i digitale medier og design (bdmd)
Omfang i ECTS:7,50
Kursussprog:Engelsk
Kursushjemmeside:https://learnit.itu.dk
Min. antal deltagere:12
Forventet antal deltagere:
Maks. antal deltagere:50
Formelle forudsætninger:Basic web programming competence corresponding to the DMD course “Webdesign and Portfolio”, or equivalent.
Læringsmål:After completing the course, students will be able to
• discuss central concepts in Locative media, including location, space and place, and their dynamic relation to digital technology
• apply basic technology and infrastructure for supporting location-based media
• plan and conduct a design project for a locative media application, with a particular focus on the dynamics between media content and location
• reflect on practical and theoretical aspects of the dynamics between media content and location, based on experience from designing a locative media application
Fagligt indhold:The course introduces Locative media as an area of design research and design practice. Locative media, broadly defined, is media of communication that are functionally bound to a location. The course provides an overview of basic concepts, theories and technologies in the area of Locative media, and applies them in a design project. It also provides an overview of the history of Locative media, including research on the relation between space, place and digital technology.
Læringsaktiviteter:12 forelæsninger og 12 øvelsesgange

12 lectures + 12 exercise sessions
The learning activities span over 14 weeks with lectures and exercises.

During the first half of the course, the students will carry out three design sprints, developing design concepts for locative media applications (mandatory group assignments). In the second half, the students will carry out a larger exam project, developing and prototyping a locative media application in an iterative process. Classroom activities will include lectures and practical exercises, and will be organized to support the work in the design projects.

Obligatoriske aktivititer:There are three mandatory group assignments that must be passed. Passing an assignment requires participating in oral presentations in class on particular dates, which will be announced at the start of the semester.

What if the student fails to pass a mandatory activity:
In the case of absence, the student should hand in a written report on their contribution to the assignment.

Be aware: If the mandatory activities are not approved, the student will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, and the student will use an exam attempt.
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:D1G Aflevering med mundtlig eksamen baseret på projekt i gruppe. Delt ansvar for projekt., (7-scale, external exam)

Group reports (maximum 20 pages) documenting the design project.

The duration of the oral exam is 20 minutes pr. student including evaluation and feedback.

Groups must consist of 3-5 students.

Form of group exam: Mixed exam 1
