Formelle forudsætninger:This course is first part of analysis specialization on the Master of Science in IT, study programme GAMES.

There are no prerequisites for this course. 
Læringsmål:After successful completion of the course the student should be able to:

1. Evaluate and select suitable methodological choices in relation to a given project.

2. Provide a considered reflection on the issue of ethics in research generally, with regards to a given method and within any specific project.

3. Design and organise analyses and experiments toward the attainment of specific goals (such as the collection of data relevant to the research question).

4. Organise, analyse and present research results.

5. Provide critical reflection on a given research process, including a discussion of the role of the researcher, the limits of attained results, and means for improvement. 
Fagligt indhold:This course examines various methods relevant for game analysis. One focal point will be qualitative methods from social science (such as interviewing, participant observation, focus groups, and ethnography). Topics will range from “big issue” considerations like ethics in research or the challenges of research in online spaces to pragmatic issues (such as data gathering, organization, and analysis). The course is relevant to both students studying computer games and those doing research on virtual worlds or other digital media.

The course consists of 14 weeks of teaching comprised of lectures, class discussions, group exercises, and supervision.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam)

Students will be required to submit four assignments (drawing on method discourses from the course syllabus) which will be compiled and submitted as a final portfolio for the course grade.
