Kursusnavn (dansk):Design til digitale kommunikationsplatforme
Kursusnavn (engelsk):Design for Digital Communication Platforms
Semester:Efterår 2016
Udbydes under:cand.it., digital design og kommunikation (ddk)
Omfang i ECTS:10,00
Kursussprog:Engelsk
Kursushjemmeside:https://learnit.itu.dk
Min. antal deltagere:24
Forventet antal deltagere:
Maks. antal deltagere:80
Formelle forudsætninger:Note: This course is for students who are admitted to the MSc in Digital Design and Communication only.

Students are expected to be familiar with using the computer and the Internet.

There is no requirement for formal prerequisites, but knowledge of image editing software (e.g., Photoshop) would be an advantage. Students who are less familiar with computers and the Internet, can expect to require extra time for exercises.

The course is taught in English. The book and most of the material is in English. Students must be able to understand and communicate in English.
Læringsmål:After the course, students should be able to:

Produce own solutions of digital products for digital communications platforms in a structured and creative process, from concept development to the creation of interactive prototypes.

Integrate basic user research with UX (user experience) concepts in the development of interactive digital products.

Apply basic principles of digital design, put them into practice by working with image processing tools (eg Photoshop), and integrate them in own solutions.

Integrate the basic tools and techniques for producing frontend solutions in HTML5, CSS and jQuery/JavaScript.

Argue for own design solutions, bringing up the practical and theoretical aspects of their choices of technique, form and content in designing products for digital platforms.

Reflect on and relate own design solution to similar solutions and situations.
Fagligt indhold:Please note, that due to technical challenges, changes may occur before the start of the semester (week 35) – this applies to all sections of the course description.

The course aims to teach students to develop interactive digital communications solutions for screen display on mobile and static platforms, both in terms of content, design and implementation.

The course provides an introduction to the Internet as a medium that allows textual, visual and auditory communication. Both communication and visual aesthetic experiences should be designed, and the course will emphasize that students are able to design communication and visual experiences on the web.

The student will work in groups to develop an interactive prototype of a website or an application for smartphones and tablets.

The lectures will introduce topics such as history of WWW, digital copyright, cross-media communication, design methods, graphic design theory and basic digital design principles for the web and the mobile web, information architecture, user research, and UX (user experience).

Exercises will enable the students to produce digital products using HTML5, CSS and JavaScript and to understand basic programming principles. Furthermore, exercises will introduce and demonstrate image editing tools like Photoshop. The exercises and the lectures will give students the initial resources to produce interactive prototypes for their digital solutions.
Læringsaktiviteter:14 ugers undervisning bestående af forelæsninger, øvelser og vejledning

Exercise lessons include individual "hands-on" exercises and group homework assignments. Schedule information will be available shortly before the start of the semester.

Obligatoriske aktivititer:Four mandatory individual assignments, and a half-way group hand-in of the project description.

Be aware: The student will receive the grade NA (not approved) at the ordinary exam, if the mandatory activities are not approved and the student will use an exam attempt.
Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:C: Skriftlige arbejder uden mundtlig eksamen., (7-scale, internal exam)

Written hand-in of the project together with the interactive prototype of a communication solution. Such solution should comply with requirements specified during the course
