Fagligt indhold:Continuously improving and innovating organizational processes are by many considered essential for organizational survival. Thus many frameworks and theoretical perspectives exist how to approach such improvement initiatives and in this course the students will be introduced to different perspectives; Business Process Management, Six Sigma, Lean Management, Soft System Methodology, Design Thinking, organizational Learning and CMMI.

The objective of the course is to qualify the students to organize improvement initiatives in a specific organizational context applying one or more of the theoretical perspectives they are introduced to, and to consider the actual organization and the aim of the improvement initiative when deciding which theoretical perspective or combination of perspectives to apply in a specific situation.

The course is organized around a project on “process improvement”. The project is conducted in smaller groups (4-5 students) and aims to improve organizational processes in a specific organization. Each group must define a relevant improvement initiative in close collaboration with their case organization, analyze the current situation in the organization and based on the analysis develop and justify a plan/solution how to improve the problem situation.

The project is supported by lectures and readings on different perspectives on process improvement. Thus the course will have a theoretical track introducing different perspectives on process improvement and a project track supporting the students’ project work. The project track includes 4 mandatory exercises that support the students learning process. Deadlines for the mandatory exercises and the detailed requirements for each exercise will be presented at the introduction to the course and will be posted on thet course blog. All groups will be offered individual supervision.

Eksamensform og -beskrivelse:X. experimental examination form (7-scale; external exam), 7-trins-skala, Ekstern censur

The duration of the oral examination is 40 minutes per examinee (incl. any group presentation).

Each student will receive one grade based on the project report and the individual oral exam in which the student defends the report and engages in discussion of the readings related to the course.

During this course students will be required to hand in mandatory assignments (e.g. attendance, papers, exercises, presentations, productions), that need to be completed/approved before being eligible to register for the examination and e.g. being allowed to submit written work for examination. Failure to hand in these mandatory assignments on time will mean that the registration for examination is annulled.
