Welcome to the course Programs as Data

We are approaching the start of a new term and we are all looking forward to teach this course.

The course starts on Thursday, August XXth at 08.00 in Aud XX. 

At the lecture you will get an overview of the course, content and our expectations on your involvement. We will also start looking at abstract syntax and interpretation of expressions in F# and C#. We will go through the first two chapters of the book (which we will refer to as PLC):

• Programming Language Concepts, by Peter Sestoft, Springer 2017.

The book has been pre-ordered for this course at Academic books.

We will also, during the course, use selected chapters from 

• Torben Mogensen: ICD = Introduction to Compiler Design, Springer 2011, parts of chapters 1 and 2. But you can also use relevant parts (from chapters 2 and 3) of the older online version BCD = Basic Compiler Design, DIKU 2010.

The course days are generally planned with lectures from 10.00 - 12.00 and exercises from 12.00 till 14.00. Lectures are held in Aud 2 and exercises in room 3A12-14.

Your preparation before the first lecture is to:

• Have F# available on your laptop. Options are Visual Studio or Visual Code which includes F# on Windows or Visual Code with F# on the Mono platform supported on Linux and Mac. I will use Mono for Mac at the lectures.
• Have read the first two chapters of the course book, PLC.
